Cameras

I recently added a Sony PMW-300K to my family.  Given the successful adoption of the Sony EX3 and the XDCAM EX workflow among so many production companies, I felt that the 300 is a logical investment.

The camera shoots on the tried and trusted 35mb/s EX format on SxS cards or SD cards.  The real plus side to this camera is that it can also shoot 50mb/s 422 footage.   This codec is much more robust.  The higher data rate and 422 color space has proven to be a winner when it comes to green screen productions.  Clients are raving about how well they can pull a key from this footage.

Although it seems that large sensor cinema style cameras are driving the video production industry, there is still a place for "regular" video cameras.  The ability to shoot an entire project on one lens and not have to kit out a camera makes a lot of sense for "run and gun" shoots, or corporate videos where sometimes less gear is better.

The images just scream from this camera.  Every time I hook it up to a monitor, I am blown away.  Footage will be coming soon.
